By: Chelan Wilkins – National Education Trainer

Chicken soup, is it good for the soul? What do we actually know about this traditional and favorite comfort food created with love in kitchens around the world?

For many of us, history has proven that a cup of bone broth has had a comforting and nutritious health effect especially during those cold and flu seasons. It has also been an excellent base to many other recipes in the kitchen. However, research is showing that this comforting bowl of soup may have more to offer then just great flavor and warmness on the days we crave it.

The many nutritional benefits and healing properties inside that bowl of bone broth has been shown to be beneficial to your health, your skin, immunity, joints, cartilages and your gut health.

Skin, Joint, and Bone Health

The choice to use chicken bones for our bone broth was not just for the delicious taste but for the amazing effects of the amount of type 2 Collagen that is found particularly in chicken to enhance the broths nutrient profile.

With various types of collagen in our body and their various roles, we know that type 2 collagen is what we naturally store in our connective tissues and plays a big role in our joint and cartilage health. It is also linked to supporting the inflammatory response in our body, which can be beneficial for those who suffer from inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, auto-immune disorders, asthma and allergies.

Through the process of simmering the beneficial nutrients such as collagen, gelatin and amino acids such as Glycine, Glutamine and proline to name a few are released. There are actually 19 amino acids in total that can be found in bone broth. Alongside those nutrients are the minerals magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, silicone and sulfur. These minerals are often hard to absorb in our body, especially through some of our foods sources so this is an excellent way to uptake them.

Immunity Booster

In recent reports and studies it has been shown that using bone broth daily can be linked to significant improvement in allergies, asthma sufferers, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel conditions, chronic fatigue, stress , skin conditions, bloating, weight gain, thinning hair, food sensitivities and auto-immune disorders by decreasing the inflammatory response in the body, improving the integrity of your digestive tract as well as being a vital role in the absorption of nutrients found in our foods.

Good for the Gut

Testing the theory “chicken soup cures all “, research has shown that consuming bone broth while you are “sick” has improved immunity through the digestive tract, as well as the ability to stop the neutrophil migration in Upper Respiratory Infections. 70 % of our immune system is located in the digestive tract, so it would make sense that having a healthy and supported digestive tract would increase our immunity during those “cold and flu” months and add to our overall health.

Nutrition

It contains 19 easily absorbable Amino Acids, which are the building blocks of protein. The essential macro nutrient needed in the body for cell regeneration. Protein is also essential in our diets for muscle growth as well as to prevent muscle wasting and breakdown, a common symptom we can encounter as we age. Protein has been shown to help stabilize blood sugars and prevent hypoglycemia. This is particularly beneficial for those who suffer from Diabetes, and metabolic disorders. It plays an important role in regulating our ghrelin levels, our satiety hormone found in our stomach which enables us to feel full, this playing a beneficial role in weight loss with the addition to using some of our other products such as CLA, Garcina Plus or our Blood sugar control products that are also linked to weight loss.

The incredible group of nutrients found in bone broth known as Glycosaminoglycans ( GAG’s ). These power house nutrients are responsible for collagen and elastin production! They are our “strength” healers! Often found in various supplement forms, they are known for their roles in arthritis prevention and relief. These nutrients are also the key to anti-aging, strong ligaments and cartilage, nails and skin firmness! However, they can also be quite expensive and not from eco-friendly sources.

Glucosamine is a known component for joint health and strength alongside Hyaluronic Acid which is naturally found in our body and has recently become quite popular in the health and beauty industry. It is known for its amazing properties associated with anti-aging, skin smoothing, cellulite reduction properties and skin firmness. And finally, Chondroitin Sulfate, an essential nutrient that keeps our joints moistened as well as an important building block in our cartilage. It has been shown to have preventive roles in Osteoarthritis by slowing down the cartilage breakdown in our joints as we age. Supplementing with Organika’s Curcumin alongside bone broth can produce an even better anti-inflammatory relief for those suffering from arthritic symptoms and inflammation in the body.
