Purchasing Lead

Full-Time | Richmond, BC

Primary Purpose of Position:


The Purchasing Leads leads, executes and evaluates purchasing activities, purchasing policies and strategy of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide support to Purchasing Manager to plan and execute all purchasing processes
  2. Assist in coaching, training and managing the performance of all Purchasing staff
  3. Monitor all purchasing activities and design various cost-effective methods, ensuring flow of inventory that guarantees optimum stock levels and meets turnover goals
  4. Execute the negotiation of purchases requisitions/ orders. Adapt negotiation strategies to cope with new circumstances or issues that arise
  5. Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers
  6. Stay current with internal and external factors impacting procurement function. Ability to attend local and international relevant trade shows, seminars and webinars
  7. Execute the organization’s purchasing policies and procedures, standards and strategies
  8. Propose alternate arrangement the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization
  9. Recommend cost-savings alternatives for Manager of Purchasing’s review/ consideration
  10. Execute and process claims against suppliers. Ensure the accurate processing of all debits/ damages, chargebacks and transfers based on Company policies and procedures
  11. Source potential suppliers and maintain strong relationship with current ones
  12. Analyze and evaluate vendors/ suppliers’ performance to improve purchasing process
  13. Assist with NPD/ Marketing on sourcing specific items for special projects
  14. Organize, secure and maintain files and documentation in the database
  15. Prepare routine reports for the Purchasing department
  16. Additional duties may be assigned

Required Skills and Training

  1. A degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management and/or equivalent field
  2. At least 3 years previous experience as a purchasing lead; direct handling of products, including evaluation of cost and quality of materials, equipment, products or service
  3. Enhanced computer skills; ability to work with more complex software and systems. Training in ERP
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation skills and conflict resolution skills
  5. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, multi-task and work under pressure
  6. Proficient in the use of English language ; Being multilingual is an asset
