Quality and Regulatory Assistant

Full-Time | Richmond, BC

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Quality and Regulatory Assistant will work in a variety of projects that will constantly change in priority. This team member will have a high capacity to adapt and interact with multiple people and excels at prioritizing tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities


Primary Duties

  • Collaborate with various departments including Graphics, Purchasing, and New Product Development in alignment with the company’s core values to make sure the product labels are accurate and compliant with regulatory and Organika’s own company policies
  • Review current label files and determine the need for revisions in accordance with Regulatory guidelines from the CFIA for food products or the NNHPD for NPN products
  • Prepare documents with information for new draft labels in food format and NPN format taking into account current NHP and food regulations
  • Participate in discussions and initiatives to improve the label review process and the overall collaboration with all the departments involved
  • Prepare draft documentation for NHP applications
    Assist with regulatory audits, as required
  • Review and/or draft various controlled documents as requested by the Quality and Operations departments
  • Assist with quality system (QS) duties, such as updating SOPs, SOPFs, training records and maintaining meeting minutes
  • Maintain updated department databases and folders, including product files, document requests, formulations, SOPs, forms and master lists
  • Maintain files of approved materials for destruction
    Perform department administrative duties, such as ordering office supplies and scanning documents
  • Provide support on special projects

Secondary Duties

  • Participate in departmental paperless initiative through generation of e-documents
  • Participate and contributes to implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in order to enhance work efficiency and performance within the department
  • Perform general housekeeping around workspace on a monthly basis
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned

Required Skills and Training

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or an equivalent scientific discipline
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Experience with writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Prior experience in performing Quality Assurance and/or Quality Control tasks; familiarity with regulatory and quality systems
  • Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and HACCP is an asset
  • Familiar with regulations related to the manufacturing, labeling, packaging, selling, and advertising of natural health products in both the Canadian and global markets
  • Previous experience in the natural health products industry is an asset
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid problem-solving skills, ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills
  • Strong proficiency in English, both written and verbal
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
