Spirulina is an edible, one-celled form of blue-green algae that’s been growing on earth for over 3.5 billion years. It has been enjoyed as a dietary supplement around the globe for centuries and was traditionally incorporated into Mexican menus during the Aztec civilization.

Considered to be a complete food, spirulina is grown in alkaline water and is commonly cultivated and harvested from open-air, freshwater pools. Because it is so easy to grow and harvest, it is considered an extremely sustainable food source.

Spirulina as an ingredient is one of the highest plant-based proteins per serving in the world, with a very high concentration of bio-available iron. It’s also a source of all essential amino acids and is known for helping reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It also contains beta-carotene, which helps support eye health and night vision. The high chlorophyll content means it’s also known as a powerful detoxifier.

Since it is so rich in iron and protein, spirulina can also aid in red blood cell production and muscle repair within the body. The high protein content can also help stabilize blood sugar when taken between meals.

INGREDIENT: Spirulina (Whole algae strain: Spirulina platensis)

Take 1 level teaspoon (3 g) once daily, added to vegetable juice or other beverages.

  • Q: Can you give me some information on how and where your algae is grown? Is it grown naturally in nature or under a more controlled setting away from other contaminants?
    • A: Our spirulina is sourced from Mongolia in a controlled environment. It is grown in covered pools to lower the risk of cross contamination. Water from pools is pumped from more than 400m below the ground to keep the level of heavy metals low and to provide different trace mineral complex. The product is further tested for all algal toxins, heavy metals and microorganisms.
  • Q: Is your product tested heavy metals?
    • A: Our product is tested for all heavy metals and passes all applicable parameters set by Health Canada.
  • Q: What is the difference between Organic Spirulina and Regular Spirulina powder?
    • A: Organic spirulina has to be cultivated and processed according to organic standards. The company has to set up a quality management system as well as quality control and traceability systems according to organic standards. Regular spirulina undergoes the same process but the farm and USDA or PACS do not certify the finished product. The regular product is also subjected to herbicide and pesticide tests. Results of these tests are all within the high standard limits set by Health Canada.
