Regulatory Affairs Specialist

Full-Time | Richmond, BC

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist, in alignment with the company’s core values and in collaboration with the Regulatory Affairs Lead, will work on a variety of projects that will constantly change in priority. This team member will have a high capacity to adapt and interact with multiple people and excels at prioritizing tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver on all regulatory related licensing and registration initiatives, including but not limited to Product license applications for NPNs; Amendments; Notifications; IRN responses; Site License renewals; Organic Certification renewal; Non-GMO verification; Safe Food for Canadians Licence renewal; and FDA Notifications for products exported to US
  • Keep updated with regulatory and quality standards from NNHPD, CFIA, and other regulatory bodies such as the US FDA
  • Collaborate with various departments including Graphics, Purchasing, and New Product Development to make sure the product labels are accurate and compliant with regulatory and Organika’s own company policies
  • Review current or new labels and determine the need for revisions/corrections in accordance with Regulatory guidelines from the CFIA for food products or the NNHPD for NPN products
  • Review documents with information for new draft labels in food format and NPN format taking into account relevant regulations
  • Assist with regulatory audits, as required
  • Review and/or draft various controlled documents as requested by the Quality and Operations departments
  • Help in maintaining, updating and organizing controlled documents and department databases, files and folders
  • Provide support on special projects

Required Skills and Training

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biology, food science or related field
  • Preferred at least 2 years’ experience in regulatory submissions related to NPN and food products
  • Experience with HACCP is an asset
  • Must have at least 2-years’ experience in the wellness, supplement and nutritional market
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple regulatory projects of varying complexities and meeting deadlines and budget parameters
  • Ability to focus on the details while keeping track of the big picture and to remove road-blocks to get things done
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work well as part of a team and independently; motivational and empowering; able to build team cohesiveness to achieve results
  • Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding analytical skills with the ability to make effective decisions that optimize business needs
