Malic acid, a natural compound your cells use to produce energy, supports cellular energy, muscle function, and daily output.
Ask Away
We’ve got the FAQs covered. But if you’re still stuck, we’re only a message away.
Get in TouchWhat is malic acid and why is it combined with magnesium?
Malic acid is a natural organic acid found in fruits, especially apples. Your body uses it as one of the inputs in the Krebs cycle, the process your cells use to turn food into cellular energy. Magnesium is also needed in that same process because it helps multiple enzymes do their job. Magnesium malate combines both in one form, so you get magnesium plus malic acid together to support the energy system your cells rely on.
How much elemental magnesium is in each capsule?
Each capsule provides 250 mg of elemental magnesium (from magnesium malate and magnesium oxide). The “malate” part adds to the total compound weight but it does not increase the elemental magnesium amount. What matters most is what your body absorbs and uses. For context, the Canadian dietary intake reference recommends 310–420 mg of magnesium per day depending on age and sex, so one capsule contributes a meaningful portion of that daily amount.
I already take 8-in-1 Magnesium. Do I need this too?
Not always. 8-in-1 Magnesium is designed for broad coverage and includes magnesium malate, but it does so as one part of a multi-form blend. If your goal is general daily magnesium support, 8-in-1 may be enough. If your main goal is a stronger focus on daytime energy and muscle output tied specifically to the malate form, a dedicated magnesium malate product gives you more of that form in a targeted way.
Will this cause digestive issues?
Magnesium malate is generally well tolerated and is known for having less laxative effect than forms like magnesium citrate. That said, any magnesium can feel uncomfortable for some people if taken on an empty stomach. If you’re sensitive, take your capsule with food and start with consistent daily use.
When is the best time to take Magnesium Malate?
Morning or midday tends to make the most sense. Try 1 capsule with breakfast, or take it before physical activity when your energy demands are higher. This is different from products like Magnesium + Melatonin, meant for bedtime, and different from forms like magnesium bisglycinate, which many people prefer later in the day for a more calming routine.
Is Magnesium Malate used for fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue?
There is published research looking at magnesium malate in fibromyalgia and chronic muscle pain settings. But these are complex conditions, and supplements are not a replacement for medical care. If you’re dealing with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, or ongoing muscle pain, talk to a health care practitioner before starting magnesium and ask what dose and form make sense for you.
