Eleutherococcus senticosus is a small, woody shrub native to Northeastern Asia. Commonly known as eleuthero and Siberian ginseng, the root has been used for some time in folklore, herbal medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The root has been determined to contain many phytonutrients including lignans, sesamin, syringaresinol, phenylpropanes, coumarins, beta-sitosterol and daucosterol. These all contribute to the vast array of benefits provided by eleuthero. The main studied active ingredient is called eleutherosides, studied to stimulate the immune system. Polysaccharides, long chain carbohydrates, from eleuthero have been shown to boost the immune system and lower blood sugar levels.
Historically used within Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as herbal medicine, Siberian ginseng is know to:
Increase energy, longevity, vitality and mental alertness
Help relieve general debility and/or aid during convalescence
Relieves general weakness, fatigue and grogginess
Help with adaptation to stresses and calm nerves

Q: Is Siberian Tiger ginseng similar to Panax ginseng? A: Siberian Tiger ginseng is actually not a part of the ginseng family, it's part of the eleutherocuccus genus. Because It has similar adaptogenic properties to a ginseng, over time it has been incorrectly referred to as a type of ginseng, and the name has stuck.
Q: What are adaptogens? A: Adaptogens are plants, herbs and mushrooms that help us adapt to or recover from the damaging effects of environmental or lifestyle stresses. They have been used for thousands of years in traditional Indian and Chinese medicine practices, and are revered for their ability to bring the body back into homeostasis — the body’s natural place of balance.
Q: Who needs adaptogens? A: When stress constantly piles high, our body’s response can be negatively affected, increasing the risk of disease. Some daily life factors that may cause stress include: Poor eating and sleep habits Stored mental and emotional tension Unaddressed physical symptoms and diseases Financial, family, work, and social obligations Organika’s line of adaptogens can help provide the support you need to thrive in modern conditions.
Q: I’ve heard about lignans before. What benefits do they have in the body? A: Lignans are a type of polyphenol (like the phytonutrient found in red wine). When we metabolize lignans from plants, they transform into a type of phytoestrogen. These molecules resemble human estrogen, but have a much weaker effect on the body. Lignans in our diet can be beneficial for blocking strong xenoestrogens from environmental toxins, as well as giving us a little estrogenic activity if ours is low. Do be mindful if you have a hormone-related cancer; please see your healthcare practitioner before taking.
Q: Is this a new herb on the market? A: No. As it’s native to Japan, northern China, southeastern Russia, South Korea and North Korea, in these places eleuthero has been used for a long time - over 2000 years!

Very happy with this. Two in the morning gives a discernible boost to general vitality. First time I have ever noticed anything from a ginseng supplement.
