Coconut Sauce also known as “coconut aminos” look just like soy sauce and have a very similar flavor, though some describe them as more complex and having a more rounded flavor profile than soy sauce. It is made from the sap of the coconut tree, mixed with salt and aged to create a flavorful ingredient. It rates low on the Glycemic Index Scale so it won’t cause a spike in blood sugar.
Coconut sap in the sauce contains minerals, vitamins and amino acids including potassium and vitamins B and C. The aminos have all nine essential acids five out of seven of the conditionally-essential amino acids. It also contains glutamine which doesn’t turn into MSG since coconut aminos aren’t fermented with bacteria or yeast.
Coconut sauce can also help in weight loss. Eating coconut increases adiponectin, which comes from fatty tissue and is secreted into the bloodstream to regulate several metabolic processes, including glucose levels and fatty acid oxidation.
